On Being Compassionate: Staying Kind and Pure

a volunteer showing compassion and care to elderly peopleThe world, as it seems, is full of people governed by hatred and apathy. Don’t forget that the world is also full of happy, kind, and compassionate people. When you think that there are times when things are starting to get hopeless, be reminded that these people exist.

You can also be one of those compassionate individuals. Should you decide to be like them, don’t do it simply because you want to impress somebody. Do it because you want to help, with full sincerity and pure intentions.

Here are some things to keep in mind if you want to live compassionately:

Start small

Being compassionate does not always mean donating to charity. You can always imbibe compassion even without the involvement of money. You can always start small. You may want to organize a small feeding program. Become a tutor for underprivileged children. There are many ways you can do to help in your own way.

Give out help

Other than organizing your own drive or club, Hospice of the Calumet Area and other experts say that you can always give out help to organizations who need it. What you can do is become a hospice program volunteer in Indiana and other places, for instance. You can even become a pro bono consultant if you have services or specialization that you can offer for free. Find organizations in your local community to get started.

Love yourself

There’s a golden rule that you cannot give love if you don’t give yourself some love. True enough, how can you take care of others if you cannot take care of yourself? When it comes to being compassionate, do not let yourself get drained. Love yourself and forgive yourself. Take a rest and do things that will make you feel better.

Being compassionate is a life principle that you can always practice. More importantly, it’s a value that will make you humble.
